Matthew 14
24 Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves.25 About three o'clock in the morning* Jesus came toward them, walking on the water.26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, "It's a ghost!"
27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. "Don't be afraid," he said. "Take courage. I am here!*"
28 Then Peter called to him, "Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water."
29 "Yes, come," Jesus said.
So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus.30 But when he saw the strong* wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. "Save me, Lord!" he shouted.
31 Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. "You have so little faith," Jesus said. "Why did you doubt me?"
32 When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped.33 Then the disciples worshiped him. "You really are the Son of God!" they exclaimed.
Why do we have such little faith in God and Jesus?
Have you ever been so low that your face or buttocks literally hit the floor?- You swore this was your last time getting super drunk because you hate blacking out.
- You're sick, with an acute,chronic, or terminal illness and you feel like such crap.
- You're unexpectedly pregnant and don't know if you should abort or keep the baby.
- You're drowning in debt.
- You hate your job and are a walking zombie while working.
- You're overweight and can't stop stuffing your mouth.
- You are being abused, verbally, emotionally, or physically on a daily basis.
Many of us have experienced or seen others experience one of the above listed. You feel like nobody understands how it feels to be you. No one understands how crappy your situation is and that its not at all easy to make things better. Its not like there is a magic wand that can change things with a whip in the air and sprinkle some fairy dust around to wipe away your debt, make you healthy again, or stop the abuse?!
However, God gave us the bible and Jesus lovingly came to spread the word of our Father's awesome powers. I absolutely love this verse because I think that it shows us that if we stop trying to do things all on our own and fully believe and have faith in God, that we too can walk on water and more! The moment we lose faith, lose sight of God and his love for us, and we look around us to the outside world, we begin to feel like we are drowning. But when we look Jesus in the eye and listen to him, we can walk by his side in an unparalled universe where we are the best individuals humanly possible. In which we do have the ability to cut out all the negative aspects in our lives and surround ourselves with only positive and heavenly experiences on a daily basis!
